Iditarod Finish Tour

Aurora Inn Nome Alaska_edited.jpg

Day 1 - March 11, 2024

After a short mid morning flight from Anchorage to Nome, your time with Red Lantern Tour Co. will kick off with a shuttle trip down Front Street with your guide, veteran musher Seth Barnes. We will land at the Aurora Inn, your home for the remainder of the week, just moments away from the finish line!

The afternoon will include a tour of the town with local guide service RoamNome to get our bearings. Pun intended as Nome is located right on the coast of the Bering Sea!

The RLTCo. group will all join together for a welcome dinner at one of Nome's hot spots. A return to the hotel early allows ample preparation for the long and thrilling day ahead.

Day 2 - March 12, 2024

Today we embark on a unique journey to the Fish River village of White Mountain. Take in the beauty of the trail from high atop White Mountain or watch the teams come into the checkpoint along the river. Mushers must take a mandatory 8 hour rest here at White Mountain before they continue the march onto Nome just 77 miles away. This is a great opportunity to see the type of work and preparation that goes into arriving at a checkpoint to rest and then gearing up for the final push on to Nome. We can take a break from the cold inside the checkpoint headquarters for lunch and then be on our way back to Nome to experience the finish!

If year's past are any indication, the first place team will likely make their way into Nome late this evening or early Wednesday morning. We will enjoy a group dinner and then get our watches out to start computing when we think the winner is likely to cross the finish line as we cheer them on down Front Street!

Day 3- March 13, 2024

From here on out the finish line siren will continually wail as every team makes their way onto Front Street and down the final stretch to the finish line. We will spend the day in the Nome area allowing guests to watch the top 10 finishers cross the finish line.

The beers will be flowing on Front Street as countless fans stay warm while awaiting the sirens next call.

Guests can also explore everything that Nome has to offer from the Carrie M. Maclain Memorial Museum, where you can sit in on one of the many talks held throughout the week by previous Iditarod mushers  to catching the regional basketball tournament at the Recreation Center.

We will regroup on Front Street while we gossip about the happenings of the day over dinner and drinks.

Day 4 - March 14, 2024

After a few days of watching the dogs glide into town, you'll be chomping to get behind a sled yourself. Today we'll make our way to the outskirts of Nome for a visit to DejaVu Kennels where you'll get to experience the thrill of dog mushing. A tour of their kennel will give you a behind the scenes view of the dog racing life.

Day 5 - March 15, 2024

The final checkpoint in the Iditarod is Safety, just a mere 22 miles from the finish line in Nome. Enjoy an aerial view of the final leg of the trail from with the helicopter ride of a lifetime. This scenic 90-minute tour will give you a wonderful panoramic view of Nome and the Bering Sea and allow for an opportunity to see the dog teams coming into Nome from high above. We'll make a pitstop at the checkpoint so guests can enjoy a drink at the infamous Safety Roadhouse and then make our way back to Nome to cheer on the teams we just witnessed out on the trail. We'll gather downtown as a group for dinner.

Day 6 - March 16, 2024

Today is a planned free day to schedule any missed activities due to inclement weather. Planning for weather in Alaska is a must as you never know when conditions will change and make any day's activities a challenge.

Any additional activities can be booked today as well. A list of other optional activities and events around town will be readily available as we get closer to your tour date. The Nome Visitor Center will also be putting out a weekly event calendar for all Iditarod visitors.

We will gather again for a group dinner in Nome.

Iditarod Finish Award Ceremony

Day 7 - March 17, 2024

By our seventh day all of the mushers will have made their way into Nome and we will join them at the Iditarod Finishers and Award Banquet. The banquet takes place at the Recreation Center at the edge of the town center. Here mushers are recognized for finishing the race as well as many honorary awards including our namesake Red Lantern Award - presented to the final musher to cross the finish line in Nome. We will enjoy one final meal as a group and get ready to embark on our journey home the next morning.
