As the clock struck 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Iditarod officially confirmed that a robust roster of 26 mushers has registered for the esteemed 2024 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. This iconic event is set to commence in Anchorage on the brisk Saturday morning of March 2, 2024. Participants and spectators alike will then reconvene for the ceremonial Restart on Sunday in the picturesque town of Willow.
Meet the Mushers: Veterans and Rookies Ready for the Trail
Celebrating its 52nd iteration, the Iditarod ushers in an extraordinary assembly of competitors. Among them is the reigning Iditarod champion, Ryan Redington, and the 2023 Rookie of the Year, Eddie Burke Jr. They will be joined by a cadre of seasoned experts, including Jason Mackey, Mille Porsild, Dallas Seavey, Riley Dyche, Jessie Royer, Nic Petit, and others. The lineup showcases a dynamic mix of nine ambitious rookies and 17 battle-hardened veterans, comprising 19 men and seven women. This group includes 10 mushers returning from the 2023 race and three previous champions of the trail.
