Yesterday musher Nicolas Petit and his dog team declared their 24-hour rest in Nikolai. Nicolas and his team were the first team into Nikolai with about an hour lead. This is a very unusual strategy, if it was his strategy, to take the 24 hour this early. All teams are required to take a 24-hour rest at some checkpoint along the Iditarod Trail, but most opt to wait until about the halfway point or even later. The weather is warming up and slushy snow slows down dog teams, was this move potentially a winning strategy?
In other news, Jessie Holmes currently holds the lead with his team into Ophir and Brent Sass right on his heels.
Our finish tour in Nome is right around the corner. Our guests are gearing up for a great finish!
